1. A Day in Bed

Being in bed is a sad experience. I had such an experience last Monday. It was the first day of school after the summer vacation. In the morning I tried to get up. But I was running temperature and my body was aching. So I had to remain in the bed. My parents got worried. They called in a doctor. He gave me medicine and advised me complete rest. The tablets he gave me were very bitter. Soon my parents left for work and my brother went to school. So I was left alone in the house. I tried to kill my time by playing cards by myself. But I found it difficult to sit up for long. I was helpless and lay down in the bed again. Soon I went to sleep and opened my eyes late in the evening. What a boring and painful day!

My father gave me bread and butter for breakfast. I ate it half heartedly. I could not enjoy my lunch also. I failed to do my homework properly. With a sad heart I went to play in the garden. Suddenly I sprained my ankle. I was a severe pain. But without my mother I forgot to cry. In the evening my mother returned and kissed me. I was in tears to meet her. May God never part me from my mother!

We felt hungry after a while. We ate cakes and biscuits. We also ate fruit and enjoyed cold drinks. We sang and danced until we were tired. We had a good time in the park.

Bhangra parties were singing folk songs. A juggler was showing his feats. Many people had gathered round him. Some children were enjoying rides in the merry-go-rounds. We had a very happy time at the fair.

Helping my mother in her work gives me great pleasure.

He died on January 30, 1948. We can never forget his services. He is the father of the nation.

They were happy to see their son. They served us with tea. We went home happily.

A street quarrel is a common sight. Mostly, an ordinary quarrel of children takes an ugly shape. Last night I happened to see a street quarrel. I was studying in my room. Suddenly, I heard a loud noise in the street. I saw a big crowd there. Two persons were exchanging hot words. Soon they came to blows. Both got injured and started bleeding. With great difficulty some people pacified them. The quarrel had started over a trifle. Some boys were playing in the open. By chance a ball struck another boy. They started fighting. Someone informed the parents of both the boys. They came out and started fighting. Thus a big scene was created out of a small thing. Such quarrels should be avoided.

We sailed them in the rain water. All children love rainy season.

Two Cats and the Monkey
Once there were a two cats. They found a loaf of bread. They started quarrelling over it. They decided to divide it into two equal parts. They went to a monkey for it. The monkey brought a balance and tore the bread in two parts. He put one part each in the two pans of the balance. The weighed unequal. The monkey ate up some from the heavier part. The process went on and the monkey ate up the whole loaf. The cats went away with sad heart.

It is corona times. The virus has spread a terror. People are following safety measures. They prefer staying at home. A boy is washing his hands. Road is deserted. One or two vehicles only can be seen on the road. Three customers are standing at a chemist shop. They have masks on their mouth. They are full of patiens. The doctors are in PPE kits. The nurses have gloves on their hands and masks on their mouth. A sanitising team is at work. They are sanitising a street. We must follow all protective measures to be safe from Covid-19.

One day a man was going to the market with his son and ass (गधा). They met a couple (दम्पति पति पत्नी) on the way. “Why walk when you have an ass to ride ?” Cried the husband. Let the boy sit on the ass.” “I would like that” said the boy. “Help me up, Father.”

Soon they met another couple. “How shameful (शमी कि बात है) of you !” cried the woman. “Let your father ride. Won’t he be tired ?” So, the boy got down and the father rode the ass.

Again they marched the “Poor boy.” said the next person they met. “Why should the lazy father rode while his son is walking ?” So, the boy got onto the ass too. As they went on, they met some travellers (यत्री). “How cruel of them ! They are up to kill the poor ass.” cried one of the travellers. Hearing this the father and the son got down. Now they decided (फैसला किया) to carry the ass on their shoulders. As they did so, the travellers broke into laughter (जोर से हंसने लगे). The laughter frightened (इरा दिया ) the ass. It broke free and ran away.

The Fox and the Goat
A fox went to a well to drink water. Accidently he fell into it. He tried to get out but was not successful. In the meantime a goat came there. She saw the fox inside the well. She asked him how all that had happened. The fox was very cunning. He told the goat that he was enjoying the water. The goat asked him if the water was sweet. He very smartly replied that it was the sweetest water that he had ever tasted. The goat said, “Let me taste it.” He asked her to bend down. When the goat bent down. The fox hung on to the goat and came out of the water and the goat fell in. He went away saying, “Now enjoy the sweet water.” The story teaches us that we should be away of cunning people.

Kinds of Sentences
वाक्य चार प्रकार के होते हैं-
1. Assertive Sentences. Assertive Sentences वे वाक्य होते हैं जिनमें किसी बात (Positive या Negative) का वर्णन होता है। इन वाक्यों को Statements भी कहते हैं। इनके अन्त में Full stop (.) लगता है।

2. Interrogative Sentences. ऐसे वाक्यों से किसी प्रश्न का बोध होता है। इनके अन्त में प्रश्न चिन्ह (?) लगाया जाता है।

3. Imperative Sentences. ऐसे वाक्यों से आज्ञा, आदेश, उपदेश अथवा विनती का बोध होता है। इनके अन्त में Full stop (.) लगता है।
